Humble Beginnings

Humble Beginnings

28th April, 2021

As Robin Sharma once said “I'm a simple man. Grew up in a small town. Came from humble beginnings. No silver spoon”, many of us started from scratch. Mr. Sharma reached a position where he owned more than a Ferrari that was ironically the result of his most successful and money-generating book entitled “the monk who sold his Ferrari”. This should be conceived as good news for those who think that they are surrounded by failure factors such as poverty, lack of proper education, and absence of luck; since many famous business owners, leaders, and influencers started their journey to success having only a few savings collected throughout the years. Similarly, several well-known organizations had some very modest starts such as Walt Disney, Tata, Louis Vuitton, Amazon, Jack Ma, Apple, Sundar Pichai, Sanna Marin, and many more.

Personally, my trip to achieve my goals was cemented with disappointments and triumphs. Thus far, I learned and matured with every failure and I tried to help others with each success. so far, my journey filled me with dignity from the experience I gained over time by applying concentration and willpower. As a result, I reached a conviction: with the right attitude and right steps, anyone can achieve his/her ambition no matter how high he/she aimed. Before you go any further in your thoughts, let me caution you, the road to success was not filled with flowers. I am not saying that humble starts or failures are prerequisites of success, yet you can ask all those who were not born with a golden spoon in their mouth but have succeeded later, what instances led to their accomplishment. Expectedly most of them will tell you that their flops led them to who they are today; more precisely their willingness to reach their goals and not falling into the same traps. Likewise, your success story is written only by you, whether you have a humble or proud beginning. With this article, I hope you get inspired, aim for excellence, take the first step towards achieving your dreams and leave your positive sign in this world.

My recommendations to you are collected from real-life personal experiences and are summarized in the following bullet points:

  1. Be Fearless: life is full of risks and every decision or step you make will require courage. It is normal to worry about failure, but it is a mistake to be a prisoner of fear or to be discouraged from moving on after a breakdown.
  2. Be ready to be unprepared: “too much analysis lead to paralysis” this is what a good Nigerian friend told me once and I found it to be right, most of the time. So, avoid small details that obstruct your path since many unpredictable things could happen. Keep in mind that no one is completely ready and sometimes it is okay to be unready to unlock your authenticity, creativity, and improvisation.
  3. Ask for help: when necessary, ask for help especially from someone who can share knowledge, wisdom, experience, or valuable connections.
  4. Trust your instincts: even if you asked for assistance when it comes to making some critical decisions do not ignore your gut feeling.
  5. Stay humble: if you experience few early successes do not let success go to your head because it will prevent you from reaching higher levels. On the contrary, stay humble and use success to fuel your entire trip.
  6. Do not put success as a goal: “put more efforts towards being meaningful” said Oprah Winfrey. when you put your efforts in the direction of changing things that matter to you, influencing people positively, or changing lives for the better; this will boost your inner motivation.
  7. Stay positive: learn to turn your setbacks into success without blaming yourself or others. Karma will do its work as you will reap what you sow. And when you spread positiveness, you will only get happiness.
  8. Think outside of the box: believe in yourself and think that everything is achievable. Do not limit yourself rather be open to new adventures especially once you have achieved your targets and ticked all your bucket list elements.
  9. Work in a smart way: while hard work will land you a job and assure your stability in an organization, working smartly will open new arenas for you. So, irrespective of your job or position, time is not always enough to finalize everything. Consequently, you always feel like you are behind which will eventually affect your efficiency or your wellbeing. As an alternative, you can start focusing on what matters, selecting your priorities wisely, and using the saved time to start something new that might be your life's turning point.

My expressed opinion may not be perfect; however, it can provide you with the first moves to shift from a jammed status to an open space where you will be ready to grasp big opportunities as they arise.

Beginnings are beginnings whether they were humble or not. The launch of your trip could be thrilling, but what is crucial is the level that you will reach. However, this fascinating story is baloney if you will not act now. Start building up your abilities, believe in your capabilities, and sell your wonderful vision, because an idea without a chauffeur to deliver it to others, will never see life. Finally, I believe that a humble person with a humble beginning is way better than someone who is subjected to the status quo.
